The town of Darien was ranked as the “best place to live” in the Nutmeg State according to 24/7 Wall St.
With 21,519 residents, Darien’s population rose by approximately 4.6 percent within the last five years. It has a median home value of $1,248,200.
Darien’s median household income is $208,125. Studies show four out of five Darien adults also have a Bachelor’s degree or higher, prompting 24/7 Wall St. to refer to the town as “home to one of the wealthiest and best-educated populations in the country.” Nationally, fewer than one in three adults has a Bachelor’s degree.
Darien also shines because of its strong job market: only 3.6 percent of workers in the town were unemployed in 2017, which is below the 2017 state and national unemployment rates (4.7 percent and 4.4 percent, respectively).
As a whole, Darien is also considered one of the safest communities in the country. There were only 14 violent crimes for every 100,000 residents in 2017, which is a mere fraction of the national violent crime rate of 383 per 100,000 people.
